What is Proventil?
Proventil is a stimulant of beta-adrenoceptors and has an active ingredient Albuterol. This ingredient dilates bronchi, stops bronchospasm and improves the function of the lungs in patients with the airways obstruction. Proventil is used to reduce bronchospastic syndrome, to treat chronic bronchitis and bronchial asthma.
Recommendations for Use
Proventil actively influences on bronchi and dilates them at once by means of the relaxation of the respiratory tracts, so that spasm goes away, and oxygen goes freely to the lungs. A therapeutic effect occurs quickly, within 2-3 minutes after the inhalation of Proventil.
If a person has problems with breathing, s/he takes the required dose of Proventil, and spasm of the respiratory tracts goes away and a breathing is completely restored. This effect is especially estimated by patients with chronic bronchitis. They have difficult breathing from time to time, and the volume of lungs is reduced. Proventil may be always kept at a hand, and if a shortbreathing appeared, or in case of lack of oxygen, an inhalation may be done which will restore a normal movement of the oxygen in the lungs.
The main advantage of Proventil is a good tolerance. Even though it does not give a selective action, the blood pressure is not increased during the use of the therapeutic doses. Proventil may block bronchospasm in patients with chronic bronchial asthma, and patients with asthma of the allergic origin. It blocks a production of histamine, so that bronchi are narrowed.
It is medically proved that the efficiency of Proventil is very low in the baseline therapy of the bronchial asthma. A onetime therapeutic dose of Proventil acts for just 4-6 hours. The highest effect appears in 1-2 hours after the use. But Proventil does not have match as the first aid during bronchospasms. Therefore, patients with bronchial asthma are recommended to have this medicine with aerosol of Proventil at a hand.
In what dose is Proventil used?
A bottle with aerosol of Proventil is indicated for the inhalation. Take 1-2 doses during the development of bronchospasm. One push – 1 dose.
It is allowed to use Proventil up to 4 times within a day (not more than 8 inhalations per day). The increase of the dose may cause an acute symptoms of the bronchial asthma, and therefore stick to the dosage regimen.
If you are going to have a physical activity or possible interaction with allergen, use Proventil 10-15 minutes before the interaction with an irritable agent to prevent the bronchospasm.
