What is Podofilox?

Podofilox is an effective topical that restricts the development and spreading of definite cell types. The active ingredient of the treatment, Condylox, is commonly known as a medication against genital warts that occurs outside of the body. However, the medication cannot cure the condition completely. Additionally, the drug can be applied for other issues, which have not been mentioned in the safety leaflet.


Recommendations for Use

Take Podofilox in accordance with the doctor’s prescription and safety recommendations. The treatment will produce the maximal effects, only if you take it in the optimal dose, length of the therapy and other features. That is why consult your healthcare provider before the beginning of the treatment course. Never change the adjusted dose to prevent possible Podofilox misuse with its devastating consequences. The doctor may give you an example of topical application at home. The more is not the better, since too much medicine will only increase the risk of side effects occurrence.

Podofilox treatment course differs greatly, depending on the treated condition and its severity. On average, patients should administer the treatment each morning and evening for over 3 days and stop the medication intake for the following 4 days. Such a cycle should be taken for 3-4 times or by the moment you can notice any symptoms of wart tissue.

Wash and dry clean your hands before Podofilox application. The treated area should also be clean. Wash your hands again after the application. Inform your healthcare provider about any complications that have occurred after Podofilox use or in case its application does not lead to the condition improvement. The topical will not treat genital warts, but it is rather powerful and effective to eliminate its symptoms. Never miss the doses to achieve the best effect. Do not pass the treatment to other patients without doctor’s notice.

Precautions and Contraindications

The medication affects the organism in a potent manner, thus, its application should be consulted with the doctor and taken according to the prescription and all the safety rules. Do not even start Podofilox treatment course in case you are sensitive to its components, especially the active ones. Additionally, do not apply the treatment on the zones that were not previously checked by your healthcare provider. The medication can significantly influence the health of an unborn or nursing child, so the treatment is not recommended for use by pregnant and breastfeeding women. Moreover, do not give Podofilox to patients under 18 years old.

Drug Interactions

The medication is not likely to interact with usual tablets and injections. However, it is important to tell the doctor about all the prescription and OTC drugs, vitamins and supplements used before the medication course. It will help the doctor to adjust a correct dose and track the progress. Do not combine the treatment with other remedies without doctor’s permission.

Side Effects

As any other powerful and useful medication, Podofilox can cause certain minor side effects. They may include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort and diverse disorders, strange skin odor, insomnia, skin irritations, painful sex and others. Such complications will disappear after a few applications. Call your physician in case they do not fade away, but aggravate instead. Seek emergency medical assistance if Podofilox administration has triggered harmful side effects, especially allergic reactions, skin oozing, burning, bleeding and others.
