What is Clomid?
Clomiphene Citrate is a 25-year-old medication that is able to induce menstrual periods in women who otherwise were not menstruating or ovulating. It is also able to help women who are not ovulating be able to become pregnant since it stimulates the ovaries to produce eggs.
Menstruation is a very complex process. It is dependent upon hormones acting in such a way that an egg is released from the ovaries, pituitary glands and hypothalamus. If there is an imbalance in any of these hormones, the normal ovulation process will be disturbed and infertility will occur. Clomid is able to correct this problem by regulating hormonal secretion and by triggering the series of events that ends in ovulation. Studies have shown that between 50 to 90% of women are able to achieve ovulation once they begin taking this medication.
